Nature As Our Guide: Beautiful Smiles in Palm Harbor

Posted on May 11, 2018

smile design Palm Harbor

Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor performs complete smile re-designs that turn ordinary teeth into beautiful smiles. Even teeth that have been stained or chipped over the years can be transformed.

If you have ever considered a smile makeover, you may have wondered if you’ll still look like yourself afterward. The answer is “Yes! Only better!”

At Prestige Dentistry, we use nature as a guide – nature at its best. We bring multiple components into harmony, such as:

  • Tooth Shape – includes proportion and alignment
  • Tooth Size – this also includes the unique dimensions of the spaces between the teeth
  • Tooth Color – hue, value, intensity, and color variations between teeth
  • Tooth Bite – how upper and lower teeth fit together
  • Gumline – shape and color
  • Face Shape and Bone Structure

This list is not comprehensive, but gives you an idea of all that’s involved. Advanced cosmetic dentistry is multifaceted, yet follows the aesthetic principles expressed in naturally beautiful smiles.

The possibilities include KoR and Zoom! teeth whitening; porcelain veneers, that can cover chips, cracks, or dull and yellowed teeth; dental implants, which can replace a missing tooth with one that functions like a natural tooth; and clear braces options that can correct a misaligned bite, yet are hardly noticeable to those around you. Visit our smile gallery for examples of what we can do.

We invite you to call us at Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor to schedule a consultation. Your new, beautiful smile may be just a phone call away.

Types Of Tooth Stains: Teeth Whitening in Palm Harbor

Posted on May 4, 2018

Palm Harbor Teeth Bleaching

If your smile could use some brightening, what are you waiting for? Professional teeth whitening or bleaching at Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor are the easiest ways you can dramatically improve your appearance.

Teeth whitening is more popular now than ever before, so it is important to realize at the outset that not every smile whitens the same. The degree of whiteness attained, and the treatment time necessary to get it, depends on the type of stains being treated.

  1. Surface or extrinsic stains are the most accessible and easiest to remove. They are caused by the usual suspects: coffee, tea, wine, cola, smoking and the natural aging process.
  2. Intrinsic stains can be lightened but it may take a bit longer. These stains form from the inside out but are visible through the enamel. They can be caused by trauma, tetracycline antibiotics, infection, or excessive fluoride use in childhood before the enamel is fully formed.
  3. Combination: Some people have both extrinsic and intrinsic staining. As we age, our teeth change, no matter how well we take care of them. Two things that work against us is that our enamel thins while the dentin underneath fades and yellows. Again, the extrinsic stains on the enamel are the quickest to lighten, but ongoing treatment with a peroxide-based penetrating whitener can lighten the deeper discoloration.

Trust teeth whitening to Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor. We offer KoR Teeth Bleaching and Zoom! whitening. We also offer dental implants, Six Month Smiles clear braces, and Clear Correct clear braces.

Is Your Smile In A World Of Hurt? Restorative Dentistry in Palm Harbor

Posted on April 27, 2018

full mouth reconstruction Trinity

Do you have extreme tooth damage, bone loss, or few or no teeth still intact? If your smile is in a world of hurt, restorative procedures at Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor can help.

First off, we feel for you. We understand how severe dental problems affect you every day of your life.

Whatever the cause of the condition – chemotherapy, severe mouth injury, disability, inadequate oral hygiene, or simply poor overall health – there is hope.

Full mouth restoration can bring back your previously healthy, beautiful smile or give you the stunning smile you never had. Patients who undergo full mouth reconstruction regain their confidence to smile, eat, and speak normally. How would that influence your life?

Replacing missing teeth and adding bone through grafting restores underlying facial structure, improving or preventing that “sunk-in” look that arises when teeth are gone and the jawbone recedes.

Restorative dentistry refers to a combination of dental procedures that restore a smile for people with damaged or missing teeth, or whose jaws don’t work properly. Treatment may include crowns, inlays/onlays, dental bonding, dental implants, porcelain veneers, or implant-anchored dentures.

Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor offers a full menu of dental procedures, including restorative dentistry. We also provide general dentistry, and are a mercury-free practice. Restoring a healthy smile may be the best investment you ever make.

Five Reasons To Schedule A Checkup: Perfect Smiles in Palm Harbor

Posted on April 20, 2018

professional dental cleaning Trinity

You’ve heard it more than once, we’ll wager: see the dentists twice a year for cleanings and a checkup. At Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor, we want all of our patients to have healthy, perfect smiles.

There must be dozens of very good reasons why you should see us every six months. Here are five of the best:

1. Protect Your Gums

It’s not only acute cavities that can damage a tooth until it is beyond saving. Gum disease that leads to bone loss is just as harmful. Gum disease is caused by a buildup of plaque that creates pockets of infection between the gums and tooth roots. This leads to periodontitis, gum recession, and eventual bone loss. A professional cleaning removes the plaque that causes gum disease.

2. Prevent Cavities

Even if you brush and floss your teeth morning and night, plaque can accumulate. We have many patients who are vigilant brushers but are surprised when our hygienist uncovers plaque on their teeth.

3. Check for Oral Cancer

The Oral Cancer Foundation relates this grave news: oral cancer claims one life approximately every hour—that’s 48,250 deaths a year.1

4. Oral Health and Overall Health Go Hand in Hand

Your oral health has a direct relationship to your overall health. Some people get regular wellness checks, but overlook their teeth. Did you know that there is compelling evidence to suggest that the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes increases with poor oral health?

5. Bone Problems
.

Part of regular dental checkups is having your teeth and jaw x-rayed. X-rays let dentists to see what’s happening beneath the soft tissues of the mouth. X-rays can reveal impacted teeth or bone decay, among other issues.

Your regular visits to Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor might also include checking your head and neck. But that’s a sixth good reason. Well, we said there must be dozens. A seventh is maintaining your perfect smile. We provide general and cosmetic dentistry, gum disease treatment, and many other services. Schedule an appointment today.

Keeping You Comfortable: Sedation Dentistry in Palm Harbor

Posted on April 13, 2018

sleep dentistry Trinity

At Prestige Dentistry, we make a conscious effort to help our patients feel comfortable. The chairs in our Palm Harbor and Trinity offices are cushy as can be, but we mean more than physical comfort.

Here are four ways we are enthusiastic about your peace of mind at Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor:

1. We’re here for you. Dr. Prestige Dentistry has devoted a professional career to promoting oral health and creating beautiful smiles.

The thoughtful dental team at Prestige Dentistry is here to help you, regardless of the state of your teeth. We have treated patients with severe tooth neglect, advanced gum disease, one or more missing teeth – in short, every imaginable dental issue. We don’t live in a bubble. We understand and empathize with our patients.

2. We protect you from pain. From topical analgesics to oral conscious sedation, we will eliminate or minimize pain as best we can. We’re pros at administering barely noticeable injections.

3. We help you with your dental anxiety. Fear of the dentist is more widespread than you might realize and certainly nothing to be embarrassed by. Sharp instruments poking in your mouth and teeth being worked on are not pleasant. Some people get claustrophobic because they need to lie still in the chair for treatment.

Sedation dentistry not only helps with pain management, it allows you to drift through your appointment. There are different levels of sedation, so you don’t have to be completely unconscious unless you want to be. (You’ll need a ride home afterward, however.)

4. We communicate with you. The staff at Prestige Dentistry has a reputation for effective and compassionate communication. Procedures are thoroughly explained and all your important questions will be answered prior to treatment. If you are not sure you want to initiate treatment, we are happy to let you think about it for a while. There is no rush.

If you have been putting off going to the dentist for any reason, we encourage you to give Prestige Dentistry a try. Neglecting your teeth has serious consequences, but with sedation dentistry in Palm Harbor, you can set aside any anxieties. Call today to schedule an appointment. We practice cosmetic and general dentistry.

Tooth Whitening in Palm Harbor: Just the Facts

Posted on April 6, 2018

Palm Harbor Teeth Whitening and Veneers You’ve probably seen ads for teeth whitening products that promise to make your smile “whiter than white.” Is that even possible? At Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor, we try to separate tooth whitening fact from fiction.

Teeth whitening has become extremely popular in recent years, and that has led advertisers to make some rather exaggerated claims about certain over-the-counter products. It’s a very competitive marketplace, after all. Even some dental professionals will guarantee fantastic results for anyone who wants a whiter smile.

At Prestige Dentistry, we only recommend tooth bleaching for patients who are good candidates for the process. We have two in-office procedures: the KoR Whitening Deep Bleaching System, and Zoom! Whitening.

KoR can whiten teeth up to sixteen shades. It’s a whitening gel that is absorbed deeply into the teeth, where it dissolves stain molecules.

The Zoom! Whitening system is also very effective. It’s a combination of dental-grade hydrogen peroxide gels and LED lamps that can lighten your teeth up to ten shades in a single office visit.

Schedule a tooth whitening with Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor. We provide a full range of cosmetic dentistry procedures, including porcelain veneers and crowns. We also provide general dentistry, and are a mercury-free practice.

Denture Implants in Palm Harbor

Posted on March 9, 2018

implant dentures Palm Harbor

As dental technology continues to evolve, so do solutions to bothersome issues. And in Palm Harbor, denture implants are now a viable replacement for old-fashioned dentures.

Denture implants are anchored to your jawbone. They are secure enough to allow the wearer to bite into an apple, chew a thick steak, or share a hearty laugh without a second thought.

If you are missing a single tooth, many teeth, or all of your teeth, implants may be the answer you’ve been looking for. We invite you to learn more about this innovative procedure.

Implants can anchor either removable or fixed dentures. Due to the way each tooth space is correctly fitted with a beautiful restoration, implants fit better than traditional dentures. Dentures anchored with implant posts are comfortable, functional, and pleasing.

At Prestige Dentistry, we focus our efforts on complete patient satisfaction. Each member of our team is enthusiastic about providing each patient with personal attention and the highest standard of care. Our patients enjoy our laid-back atmosphere, while benefitting from our cutting-edge technology and experience.

To learn more about denture implants or any of the other procedures we offer, call Prestige Dentistry in Palm Harbor and Trinity for an appointment.

Help! My Crown Came Off!

Posted on February 23, 2018

repair broken dental crown Palm Harbor

You are chewing an apple and hear a strange sound, then something in your mouth feels wrong. One of your crowns has popped free. Chances are, the crown (which cost you hundreds of dollars) can be re-cemented.

What do you do when your dental crown comes off? It’s essential that you take the following steps:

Don’t Swallow It!
This may seem like a no-brainer, but we are mentioning it because it is crucial. Carefully take it out of your mouth. If you accidentally swallow it, you will have some extra troubles that aren’t pleasant.

Look Carefully
Inspect the crown and your tooth. If there is damage to either, your Prestige Dentistry doctor will need that information. Which brings me to number 3:

Call Prestige Dentistry
We will schedule you an appointment immediately and advise you on whether you should use temporary cement to re-attach the crown until you can get into Prestige Dentistry and have it permanently re-cemented.

Clean Gently
Use a toothbrush to closely clean the crown and the unprotected partial tooth.

Handle With Care
While waiting for the crown to be re-cemented, skip substances that are chewy, sticky, or crunchy.

Debunking Dental Myths

Posted on February 16, 2018

Clearwater cosmetic dental and tooth implants

Today’s Prestige Dentistry blog post focuses on three dental-related myths prevalent in the Trinity area.

All Sugar Is Equally Bad For Teeth
We all know that sugar increases our risk of tooth decay, but some types are worse than others. Sugar-based foods that sit on the teeth are more dangerous than those that are swallowed immediately. For example, sipping a soda or sucking on a mint can be worse than eating a candy bar all at once.

You Don’t Need To Worry About Baby Teeth Because They Will Fall Out Anyway
Healthy primary teeth serve several important purposes. They allow the child to eat and speak properly. They retain proper spacing of teeth. A healthy smile instills confidence and self-esteem. Healthy baby teeth eliminate the pain of decay which disrupts normal daily activity.

Pulling A Tooth Is Just As Good As A Root Canal
We will let the American Associate of Endodontists explain this one:
Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is the very best option. Nothing can completely replace your natural tooth. An artificial tooth can sometimes cause you to avoid certain foods. Keeping your own teeth is important so that you can continue to enjoy the wide variety of foods necessary to maintain the proper nutrient balance in your diet. Endodontic treatment, along with appropriate restoration, is a cost-effective way to treat teeth with damaged pulp and is usually less expensive than extraction and placement of a bridge or an implant. Endodontic treatment also has a very high success rate. Many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime.1

At Prestige Dentistry, we provide accurate answers to all of your dental questions.

If you are interested in dental implants, invisible braces or endodontics, call us today to schedule an appointment.
